In today's world, it seems that almost any topic is open for debate. While I was gathering facts for this article, I was quite surprised to find some of the issues I thought were settled are actually still being openly discussed.

HouseKeeper won't actually straighten up your house, but it will remind you to do easily forgotten chores.

When was the last time you checked your dryer's vent tube? My guess is this serious fire hazard slipped your mind, as it routinely does mine.

Speaking of fires, isn't it time you replaced the batteries in your smoke detectors? Don't worry: That low-battery beep will remind you--most likely in the middle of the night.

Household chores like these are critical, but are usually difficult to remember. Enter , a clever--if slightly incomplete--app that reminds you when it's time to replace the furnace filters, clean the chimney flue, and so on.

HouseKeeper lets you set reminders for 10 easily forgotten items, including the baking soda in your fridge, the water filter, the fire extinguishers (they're supposed to be inspected regularly), and even your toothbrush (conventional wisdom: replace it every three months).

White Goat was developed by , a small shredder maker based in Kiryu City, north of Tokyo, which says it's the first product of its kind in the world.

It's open-source for the fitness fiends.

Personal trainers and physical therapists will be able to e-mail customized workouts with their own business logos to patients.

If this sounds up your alley, shell out $9.99 (at the Apple store only) for the Fitness Builder app. Once you've got it on your , you can upgrade to Plus for an additional chunk of workouts and videos, or you can wait until March, when PumpOne co-founder and presidenttells me his company plans to release Fitness Builder Pro (for personal trainers, for $19.99 a month) and Fitness Builder PT (for physical therapists, which comes with an extra 1,000 videos and images, for $49.99 a month).

"We're building what we think and know people will use and is going to be easy," Schlosser says. "Doctors are busy and won't spend hours of time reviewing videos. There is a lot of time spent in a session with a physical therapist explaining what is going on. That time can be spent working."

The problem with physical therapy today, according to PumpOne:

A static image with text on a piece of paper leads to a compliance rate of 20 to 30 percent. These tools lack compliance checks and motivational incentives for the patient and offer very little customization to potential progress and/or variation. Additionally, the therapist must attempt to deliver a full repertoire of education early in the course of recovery knowing full well that much of the education will be lost by the time it is used--if at all.

Of course, the whole system relies on self-reporting, which Schlosser recognizes. There is nothing in this suite of apps that prevents or even discourages someone from simply lying about what was accomplished over the course of a given workout.

But technology alone isn't going to weed out those among us who are willing to shell out money for the app and not do the work. If this is you, consider investing instead in an app that yells at you each time you are cheating yourself.

On my way back from Vegas and the remains of CES 2010, I put my faith in JetBlue. As one of the few airlines with a nearly complete collection of TV networks viewable in midair, I knew back when I booked my flights months ago that, in the unlikely event of a Jets playoff game, a seat-back TV would be my only recourse in case the game fell on a Saturday. Of course, the impossible happened and I ended up watching the Jets-Bengals showdown on my miniature seat-mounted screen.

It was a great experience, especially with a flight full of cheering Jets fans (and a few disgruntled Giants/Bengals fans), but I wouldn't have been so lucky on Virgin America. Their spotty in-flight TV service had channels like MSNBC, but no NBC, and in-flight Wi-Fi would have been useless, since the NFL doesn't properly support Internet game-viewing.

At CES, when I saw Flo TV demonstrate its upcoming and very exciting collaboration with Mophie to bringvia a slip-on case, the representatives tried to entice me with promises of live sports. I knew better: the NBA, NHL, MLB, PGA, and NCAA football were all represented in some fashion, but not the NFL. No, not America's most popular sport: it's been locked up for years, and it doesn't make any sense.

To "officially" followNFL games, you either have to subscribe to an audio stream from the NFL, follow on Sirius (although that doesn't work overseas via the Internet), or subscribe to DirecTV's NFL package and pay an additional fee for laptop/iPhone streaming via , which costs $380. The DirecTV app, Supercast Mobile, is technically free, but it's useless without the subscription. You could also set up ato your home television and watch on your PC , but that would only enable one broadcast game in a local market, and requires both a good TV feed at home and the purchase of a Slingbox. Unofficially, a number of peer-to-peer streaming sites have spotty feeds set up from personal TV sets, which come and go as they're shut down.

Unfortunately, the illegal means are the best way for international travelers to get an NFL fix, since the only regular-season games that are streamed over the Internet at this point are NBC's Sunday Night broadcasts, and that's inside the U.S. I had to resort to scanning streaming sites while hunched over awhen I was vacationing in Bavarian Germany, hoping to grab the Jets-Colts game.

What's absurd is that the NFL doesn't have a pay-per-view system set up on the Internet for individual broadcasts--rather than charge the whole hog, a fee per game could draw in a whole new audience of fans who would otherwise be forced to seek out the nearest sports bar with a satellite dish.

Every other U.S. sport has been more open and democratic about its access, but the NFL gets large chunks of money from entities that pay big for the exclusivity of their content (Sirius, DirecTV, EA, Sprint). Now, in all fairness, the NFL is also the only American sport you can watch nearly every local game of on TV without an extra cable subscription. But, beyond over-the-air, the NFL is an absurdly tight ship. My open request to the NFL: make your games available to stream and view individually. I have no idea if the result will be any more profitable than the deals that are already set up, but I don't care. Give me easy access. Grant me my wish by CES 2011, so I don't resort to terrible hacks when I'm in England.

Another possible detraction--some of her voices sound more like Stephen Hawking's vocal synthesizer than that of a hot human female. Roxxxy also has sensors on various parts of her 5-foot, 7-inch, 120-pound body and can tell when she's being touched. No word yet on whether nibbling her ear drives the machine wild.

Greeting Card Studio purports to allow users to create attractive, high quality greeting cards. In reality, this program's lack of features and buggy operation makes us think we'd be better off with construction paper and markers.

If you find yourself confused by what you've read to this point, don't despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

The program's interface is basic and looks a lot like many other image-editing programs. The trial version comes with 16 templates, which range from cutesy to tacky. None of them was anything we'd want to give to someone (at least not someone we liked). With a program designed specifically to create greeting cards, we figured there would be options to create a cover image and then put a message inside, but all this program seems able to do is insert your photos into its goofy borders and allow you to print them. We thought we might have better luck creating a card from scratch than with the templates, but every time we tried to select the paper size--the first step in creating a card--the New Project screen closed itself. We tried over and over again, but the program seemed to play a cruel cat-and-mouse game with us, never letting us complete the setup for our new card. Thus, we can't attest to the features in this part of the program, because we were never able to get it to work. The program's built-in Help file is very basic and not particularly helpful.

Greeting Card Studio has a 30-use trial, which is more than enough. It comes as a ZIP file but installs and uninstalls without issues. We do not recommend this program; it doesn't do anything that couldn't be done more easily with another program.
